MYSTERY

A garden that invites curiosity and exploration

Mystery provides curiosity and encourages the visitor to explore a garden. A skilled designer can use mystery to lead a visitor through a landscape crafting a unique experience, while engaging their sense of adventure. Rather than allowing a visitor to see your entire garden at once, think about how they can see a little at a time and lead them from space to space. When you set up outdoor rooms and think about the transition between each one, your garden becomes a magical place.

RESOURCES in our DESIGN LIBRARY + A NEW TEMPLATE LIBRARY

This month I've referred to two past Garden Design Guides, plus our new TEMPLATE LIBRARY! These templates were created in our former membership, Paper Garden Studio (so some of you might recognize it). It was finally time to revive this resource and I'm hoping it will benefit many of you too.

NEW TEMPLATE LIBRARY

This special bonus will be tucked into our membership's main page from this month forward. It includes templates that you can trace directly or simply use them as inspiration.

Templates I used in my demo video:

FENCES IN ELEVATION

TERRA COTTA CONTAINERS

DESIGNING IN ELEVATION

When you view your design in elevation (as if you’re standing in front of it) it’s easier to understand the space and be able to visualize yourself in it. We'll be drawing in elevation for our mystery activity, so if you need further guidance, please check out this topic.

GARDEN DESIGN GUIDE .010

LEGIBILITY

Legible spaces are coherent, understandable, simple and organized. It involves organizing features in a way that allows someone to easily comprehend the spatial layout. This and mystery are factors in the Humanistic Assessment.
