DESIGN PROCESS OVERVIEW
Let this framework guide your spatial design.
This month we will continue to build a solid landscape design foundation with an overview of the design process. This is a step-by-step process that guides you through a design project. This process helps you define the function, aesthetics and structure of your garden rooms...which is also your spatial design. As discussed last month in the GARDEN ROOMS GUIDE, it's important to define our outdoor SPACES first, before jumping into the details of planting design.
We will cover three broad stages with several sub-categories. For now we will discuss brief summaries with the intention of deep-diving into each one in future months.

SPATIAL DESIGN. This is the overall spatial arrangement (or structure) of your garden. Spaces (or rooms) are defined then arranged (if more than one) so they relate to each other The design process is a great way to develop spatial design. Read more here.
The three major stages of the design process include...
COLLECT
Gather as much information as you can from the client and site. Site visits and client interviews are important.
DESIGN
Use the information in the COLLECT stage to inspire your conceptual drawings towards a fabulous design.
DOCUMENT
Finalize the design with appropriate drawings to communicate your vision to a client or your family.
